Cortinarius (Sericeocybe) azureovelatus Orton
Violettgestiefelter Dickfuss Cap 4–8cm across, convex then expanded and often broadly umbonate, pale bluish-clay at first then ochre-buff darkening with age, margin remaining incurved and bluish for some time often with remains of the whitish to yellowish veil. Stem 50–100 x 10–18mm (15–30mm wide at the swollen to bulbous base), tinged violaceous when young, whitish with yellowish patches of veil and a well-defined ring zone. Flesh whitish tinged with violaceous in stem apex when young and yellowish in stem base in older specimens. Taste pleasant, smell pleasant becoming stronger and sickly-sweet when cut. Gills violaceous at first then clay buff, finally tinged rust. Spore print rust. Spores subglobose, minutely roughened, 8–10 x 7–8µ. Habitat deciduous woods. Season late summer to early autumn. Rare. Edibility suspect -avoid. Found In Europe. The second photograph was taken by Geoffrey Kibby.
